Extended Bowel Prep

 If you have had problems with a bad prep in the past, or were told to do an "extended bowel prep" because a prior colonoscopy was unsuccessful due to an inadequate prep, this section applies to you!

All of the material in the Colonoscopy section applies, except for two important changes.

1. Instead of one day of the liquid diet (the day before the procedure), we would recommend 2 days of a liquid diet instead. 

This includes all of the permitted "liquids" noted above, including the milkshakes, jello, ice cream, chicken broth, etc.

2. Instead of buying 1 bottle of Miralax (8.3 ounce bottle - 238 grams), buy 2 bottles of Miralax. 

Instead of buying one 64 ounce of any electrolye drink, buy 2 64 ounce bottles.

Mix up the first Miralax solution as instructed in the Colonscopy section:  (put 1 bottle of Miralax in the 64 ounces of electrolyte drink and drink that.). 

The 2nd bottle of Miralax and electrolye drink are only necessary if, after the first bottle, you are not yet "clear". If not clear after the first bottle has finished, you should mix the second bottle of Miralax and electrolyte drink, and drink until your stools become clear. 

Most patients who need this will only generally need another 1/4 to 1/2 of the second bottle, but you can drink the entire 2nd bottle if needed to clear your system. 

Your stools should ideally be clear enough to resemble water coming out.
